This is an interesting question. I'm not sure that there is one particular type of car or vehicle that is used by these types of killers. It would have more to do with the killers MO (modis operandi) and signature.

Ted Bundy drove a VW Bug. He hunted college girls, so he needed the 'look'. Nothing looks more like a student than a Bug. He seemed completely harmless. He had a cute little car, a charming smile, and sometimes a cast on his arm or a fake police badge.

There are other killers that need more room. They find a van or some a pickup truck with a camper on top. Green River Killer Gary Leon Ridgeway in Washington state sometimes used his RV. (Recreational Vehicle). That worked great for him. He killed more than 40 women.

Some like a sporty look, giving them a 'smoother' look, or one that can afford to show a girl a good time. But one thing that is almost universal with serial killers. They spend huge amounts of time in their vehicles. If nothing else, serial killers stay mobile. They troll, plan, plot and then attack.

Whatever kind of car or truck they drive, it will be something that is functional as to their needs to pick up, kill, and then dump bodies.

Interesting fact:One criminal profiler after studing the case histories of the victims accurately predicted the killer would drive a red car. He did. Others can tell if they will drive nice cars that they keep clean or others that drive old junky type cars that they never wash and there is so much garbage they barely can fit a passenger. This sometimes has to do with whether the killer is considered 'organized or non-organized'. It can help narrow the field of suspects for law enforcement officers.

How rare are women serial murderers?

Although not as plentiful as male serial killers, history shows that women are not immune to killing in numbers. The biggest difference in men and women serial killers is the how and why of their crimes. Male serial killers are a whole different animal and are driven by completely different forces. For men its about control, sex, control. They are usually driven by strong violent fantasies. And they are usually strangers or near strangers to the victims. Women serial killers are most likely to kill someone they know. Nurses kill their patients for varying reasons. They kill relatives for monetary gain. This is not the complete list but it gives a good idea of how a woman kills. They are big on poison, too. Then there are the women, rare though they are, that kill their children. Not Andrea Yates, the Texas housewife that drowned her 5 small children in their bathtub. The women that suffer from Muchausen's by Proxy. These women kill their own children for the attention it brings them. Although Aileen Wuornos has been touted as the first female serial killer, she was far from it. What made Wuornos non-typical was she killed men she did not know. But it was about monetary gain. So except for the stranger/victims she was more typical than people realize. They had what she wanted/needed so she took it. (money, car) These are just examples, and of course there are always exceptions to the rules but this gives a good idea of women killers.

Why would a car overheat going up hill?

The engine works hard and produces a lot more heat than when the car is driven on a leveled road. The car is usually driven slower on the uphill and there isn't as much air cooling the radiator. But the main reason it overheats is that the cooling system is malfunctioning.

Why do people idolize serial killers?

Media has only one pourpose of glamorizing serial killers. Money. These movies profit well. Most of us have seen the latest serial killers series named Dexter. I am not moved by watching a serial killer being the hero of the youths. Whoever wrote this scrip is a high level IQ fellow who studied serial killers and it's traits. I borrowed the dvds to study this fenomenon. I had to go through 4 seasons having 12 episodes. And the writer is right. Dexter is a low IQ fellow who looks like a high skilled high IQ fellow with 12 years of learning with his carrer as a blood spatter analist. He even had some kind of reatarted learning. By age 3, he could not pronounce his brother's name Bryan. As I said before, I didn't like this series but the writer had the right idea when he wrote this script. The media protraits serial killers as highly intellingent. They need a equal intelingent detective to cath him. In real life, this is not true. Most serial killers are caught by accident. Ted Bundy was caught speeding. Dumb mistake. The son of Sam was caught by leaving his guns showing from outside is car. Dumber mistake. The Unabomber did have a high IQ. He was caught not by a dumb mistake but by high thinking brain mistake. The Zodiac also had a high IQ and he was never caught. Glamorizing serial killers in the media is a bad practice and even more, it is increasing the United States serial killers problem. Many people believe media is producing serial killers. Yes, i do agree that it has something to do with pecuniary reasons. Everyone wants money, right? And the best way to accomplish that-in the media-is to feed the people what they want. Serial killers are fascinating and i believe alot of people think so. Their acts are gruesome and appalling. It provokes a myriad of questions. When you read about specific serial killers, you would think something like this :"Oh my! This sounds like a horror story!" For some people, murder feeds their intrigue. PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW and the media sees that...so they play smart and decide to take advantage of our curiosity. That's when we see documentaries of serial killers coming out and then it progresses to movies.
