Mannitol is a drug that reduces excess fluid in the body.

The kidneys help sort waste from nutrients in the body. They absorb nutrients and water, while leaving out waste and enough water to expel the waste in the form of urine. Mannitol decreases water and Na+ absorption by the kidney, which creates more liquid waste, which reduces water in the body. This can help to reduce pressure in the eyes or brain. It can also be used as a lazative.

I don't know much more about this drug, your doctor could probably tell you about it. And as always, DO talk to a doctor before taking any sort of drug or medication.

Is S saprophyticus mannitol fermenter?

Yes, it is slightly manitol-positive, though. It will appear a medium yellow tint and Staphylococcus aureus will contrast it by turning bright yellow. S. aureus is a better example for mannitol-positive.See Figure 5:http://www.microbelibrary.org/Culture%20Media/details.asp?id=2315&Lang=

If mannitol releives the cerebral edema why does it cause the pulmonary edema?

Circulatory overload due to expansion of extracellular fluid is a serious adverse effect of mannitol; as a consequence, pulmonary oedema can be precipitated in patients with diminished cardiac reserve, and acute water intoxication may occur in patients with inadequate urine flow. So, as interstitial oedema is determined by starling's forces, it is possible that the increased hydrostatic pressure created by the manitol offsets the increased oncotic pressure leading to extravasation of fluid.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa grows on which agar?

yesTypically, MSA is used to isolate and differentiate various staphylcocci, some of which are pathogenic, like S. aureus, or non pathogenic like S. epidermidis. Staph are the only kind of bacteria that will grow on MSA. S. aureus is the only staph that ferments manitol. Meaning, MSA can be used to isolate pathogenic from non-pathogenic staph.source: biology major

Does double mint gum have pork in it?

It may have pork gelatine - I'm not familiar with product and cannot find the ingredients online, but many candies do so check the ingredients on the pack. If there's a kosher symbol (usually an encircled K or U) then it's fine. However, if there's no symbol but also no mention of gelatine it might still not be kosher as some candies contain the colourant cochineal or carmine, which - as it's made from insects - are not kosher.

Is TSA selective or differential media?

Selective media favor the growth of particular microorganisms. Bile salt or dye like basic fuschin and crystal violet favor the growth of gram-negative bacteria by inhibiting the growth of gram positive bacteria. Maconkey agar is widely used to grow E.coli and related bacteria. Differential media are media that distinguish among different groups of microbes and even permit tentative identification of microorganisms based on their biological characterstics. Blood agar is used to culture of bacteria from human throat. Mckoney agar is both differential and selective media.

Why does cocaine make you vomit?

The reason you poop when you take ecstasy is because it causes the release of a large amount of serotonin. Serotonin causes diarrhea. Serotonin also causes the euphoria (hence similar drugs that increase serotonin are used as anti-depressants). The active substance in ecstasy is MDMA which is also an amphetamine.
