A war against communism, 1948-1994
The cold war consisted of no killing (no actual war). Vietnam involved killing (real war).
There is no connection between the 20th century Cold War and the US Civil War. One major difference was that the Cold War was not one nation seeking to break free from its original position. Which for the South meant its position as a state within the US.
A limited war used in the context of the cold war meant LIMITED to conventional weapons only. To do otherwise meant total war, verses limited war. Total war would include the use of nuclear weapons. Such as WW2 (the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki). The Korean War (1950-1953) and the Vietnam War (1961-1975) were the first and only limited wars fought during the cold war. Cold War meaning between the communists and free world.
Korea was a "hot" portion of the "cold" war. No one died during the "Cold War" because NO WAR was fought. Cold War meant NO WAR. Cold War=Military Standoff. Cold War was just a "Term" for not shooting at each other, but ready to push the buttons once they got the word to do so. The Korean War was a war, like any other shooting, killing, destroying war. It just so happened to be the FIRST war (Besides Indochina) of the Atomic Age involving the US.
No. Cold War meant No War. The term was used to tell the difference between a war and a military stand-off. EXAMPLE: During the cold war era, when on duty somewhere, if a servicemen heard, during conversations, "...things might get hot pretty soon..." he might be asked to clarify himself. To servicemen during those times, "Hot" meant war/ shooting (killing and dying, etc.).
I assume the term Hot War is meant to be in contrast to the term Cold War. Hot wars, in relationship to the Cold War, is any type of conflict which has actual conflict resulting in violence and possible death in an open and overt arena.
"Spooks" in cold war US military usage meant "secret stuff" like the CIA, etc.
The period of tension and rivalry between communist nations and noncommunist nations ends.
It wasn't a war. It was called a war due to the lack of an easier term to say. The cold war meant "no shooting, no killing"...if it was a real shooting war, it would've been a hot war (guns get hot when fired and fire is hot). The cold war was an arm's race; one upmanship on the other. It was brought on by the atomic bomb in 1945 and lasted until the Soviet Union became Russia again in 1990.
There was no "front" in the Cold War.
