Mechanical Seal barrier fluid is the media used for the flushing of mechanical seal faces. The heat generated (because of physical contact and friction) between a pair of mechanical seal (Normally one face rotary whereas the the is stationary) faces is being carried away by the barrier fluid which is being recirculated after proper cooling.

The barrier fluid also create a barrier between the process fluid and flushing fluid. It is being kept at a higher pressure than process fluid in order to always ensure that only barrier fluid film remain across the seal faces all the time.

The barrier fluid is being kept in a container with connected piping from mechanical seal inlet and outlet. There is normally a cooling device (Air cooler or conventional water cooler) in between for cooling the seal outlet barrier fluid.

Liquids being used as a barrier fluid in cases of liquid sealing. Where as gases being used a barrier in case of gas sealing.

The barrier fluids are being recommended considering the various check points being given as a guide line in API 682 3rd edition. ( See the details in the subject API plan 53 & 74 barrier fluid selection).

Thanks.

Are seals sexual?

Yes, they are mammals. (Unless you mean a mechanical seal, such as a lip seal, rubber seal or labrynth seals, which are all mechanical.)

What is the working principle of mechanical seal?

Mechanical seals feature:*Invisible leakage*Less friction/power loss*No to little wear on the shafts or sleeves*Flexibility - to accommodate shaft deflections and "End Play"*No period maintenance*Long LifeIn practical use, the basic rotating face mechanical seal principle is adaptable to serve a tremendous number of sealing needs: standard mechanical seals can suit most requirements-including temperatures to 500 degrees F and shaft speeds to 3600 RPM through the choice of secondary seal and the combination of seal and seat face materials which are offered. Seals can be ordered in balanced configurations to seal pressures above 200 psi, or used in a multiple for extremely high pressures or especially severe fluid services....Special mechanical seals can be furnished to meet the most demanding of industrial applications considering pressure, temperature, speed or fluid.

What is diaphragm seals?

A diaphragm seal is a flexible membrane that seals and isolates an enclosure. The flexible nature of this seal allows pressure effects to cross the barrier but not the material being contained. Common uses for diaphragm seals are to protect pressure sensors from the fluid whose pressure is being measured.

What is hydraulic motor?

A hydraulic motor is actuated by the hydraulic fluid which is pumped into it, and will use this fluid energy to turn a shaft or mechanical gearset, thus converting fluid energy into mechanical energy.
