Caused by light refraction in the atmosphere?

Mirage is a good example which is seen due to refraction of light and especially due to total internal reflection. ============================ A semi-opposing opinion: No reflection is required for the creation of a mirage, only refraction. ============================= Hope you might have heard about the conditions for total internal relection to take place. 1) Ray has to traverse from denser to rarer 2) the angle of incidence is to be more than critical angle of the denser medium So in such a case the refraction phenomenon cannot take place and so all the energy to be refracted is sent back to the denser medium itself. Hence named as total internal reflection. Of course total internal reflection is totally different from ordinary reflection.

Does a diamond shine due to total internal reflection?

yes

Why does a crack in a window pane sometimes appears silvery?

this is due to total internal reflection and wave theory of light.

How does rainbows form?

it forms due to internal reflection and diffraction of water droplets.

Will you show some working model for total internal reflection?

You will need a laser light. a 1/2 or 1 ltr bottle, a container for the water to fall, Make a hole with a pin or geometric compass on one side of the bottle . On exactly the other side hold the laser. The light will travel in a straight line. Now fill the bottle with water . You will see that the light bends inthe direction in which the water flows in the tub. This is due to total internal reflection.

Why do we see a mirage is it truth explain?

A mirage is actually a virtual image that is seen due to Reflection of the heat rising from a hot surface such as a road. As mentioned, it is a virtual image so onemay think that it is not true...how ever what we see is not a trick of the eyes so this question is pretty biased . however, I personally think that it is true

What is a superior mirage?

A superior mirage happens when an image (mirage) of an object appears above the actual object. This happens due to the bending of light waves.

Does a microscope work due to reflection?

Microscope works due to refraction.

How do mirages form in deserts?

I think they form when one starts to hallucinate from the scorching sun.

What is the meaning of mirage?

An optical effect, sometimes seen on the ocean, but more frequently in deserts, due to total reflection of light at the surface common to two strata of air differently heated. The reflected image is seen, commonly in an inverted position, while the real object may or may not be in sight. When the surface is horizontal, and below the eye, the appearance is that of a sheet of water in which the object is seen reflected; when the reflecting surface is above the eye, the image is seen projected against the sky. The fata Morgana and looming are species of mirage.

Why is akito so mean and grumpy to everyone?

Akito's behavior is a result of his troubled past and complex personal issues. He often resorts to anger and control as defense mechanisms due to his own insecurities and fear of vulnerability. This behavior is a reflection of his internal struggles rather than a reflection of others around him.
