Many people think its a dog, others cat. Truely it is nether. The hyena has its own family, the Hyenidae. In this animal family belongs the Brown hyena, the Spotted hyena, the Striped hyena, and the insect eating Aardwolf. I hope more people actually figure this out and start knowing what animal a hyena is :)
Even though the hyena is not closely related to the dog, the hyena is still doglike. The hyena is doglike because his or her facial features look like a dog's face. The hyena is more closely related to the cat than the dog. The hyena is a close relative to the mongoose family. Thus, the hyena can be defined as a doglike animal that is closely related to the civet cats yet distantly related to the domestic cats.
the hyena has a strong jaw because of what it eats it eat rotting meat which is sometimes so hard it will break your jaw if the human tried to bite it so they need strong jaws to eat and live basically
