A neolocal society is an extrapolation of the premise of a neolocal residence in which a marital family in a primarily industrialized western economy resides beyond the geographic area of the extended family of either spouse. In a neolocal society, more than just a distinction in geographoc area of residence is implied. It is a society in which its values and norms have diverged from those more closely associated from those centered around extended family and community standards based on them; thus the neolocal society is less dependent on majority religious ideation and institutional tradition.
