The Italians just wanted land and power. Germanny felt that it was treated too harshly after WWI and invaded other lands to relaim its former glory. Japan was an industrialized island nation with little Natural Resources, so it attacked other nations around it to gain these resources for its industries.

After the visit to Japan by Commodore Matthew Perry, after a while the Japanese realized that they needed to grow to survive the more competitive world, and they grew much more aggresive after the russo-japan war in which they won. A clear reason of course could be hotly debated endlessly.
