Oxycodone is a strong narcotic opiiod pain reliever. It is very strong, about 1.5-2x as powerful as morphine. Oxycodone comes in a varity of forms, mostly pills containing oxycodone along with an OTC pain relieve like Tylenol or Asprin. Some example are Percoset 5/325, 7.5/325, and 10/325 pills. The smaller number is the mg amount of Oxycontin and the larger is the amount of Tylenol. Oxycodone also comes in pill where it is the only active ingridient. Roxicodone is an instant release formulaiton of oxycodone that comes in 5, 15, and 30mg stremgths. OxyContin is the most famous form of pure oxycodone and comes in 10, 15, 30, 40, 60, 80, and 160mg strengths. It is a time release pill that provides pain relief for up tp 12 hours, and is therefor used most often in patients with chronic pain. The 160mg pill was discontinued because too many people were overdosing on it.
Oxycodone has a very high potential for abuse, and is one of the most illegally used medications in the world. On the street, the price for oxycodone is about $1 per mg so an 80mg OxyContin pill can sell for as much as $80!
