The official language of Pakistan is Urdu. This language is in the Indo-Aryan language group, meaning is very similar to the Hindi, Bangali and Punjabi languages of India. Due to past relations with the Commonwealth of Nations, English is recognized as the second official language of Pakistan.

_">Of the many favours of Allah Almighty on human beings one great favour is the faculty of speech. On birth we are blessed with mother tongue and able to learn other languages by listening and reading etc. with the advancement of our age and use of our faculties. Of course, other things being normal which again is a favour of Allah Almighty on humanity as most of the other things are beyond the control of human beings though they are blessed and even asked to exert, explore and harness the whole universe to the use and benefit of mankind. It is abuse, misuse, non use where needed and excessive use where priority could be determined by reason and logic in fair manner. Language is no exception to it. It has its own code of ethics and morality, honesty and fairness in use whether at receptive end or transmitting end. It is the means of communication. It has a great value in all sphere of life be they moral or spiritual, economic, social, political, relating to humanities and arts or science and technology. The soul of all education and training is language. We should not hate languages other than our own mother tongue. Those are also mother tongues of other people who are also the creation of the same God who is our Creator. The diversity and unity both have their significance and value in the matter of language. People of each language have store of knowledge and wisdom. We should honour and respect all languages whether spoken the least or the most. The motto given by Hadrat Quid-i-Azam (رحمۃ اللہ علیہ ) is: Faith, Unity and Discipline.

On the question of national language in 1935 when Congress started a movement of Hindi Hindustani, Hadrat Quaid-i-A`zam (رحمۃ اللہ علیہ ) said:

"We know the real object of this scheme is to throttle Urdu."

In 1938 while answering a question of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Hadrat Quaid-i-Azam (رحمۃ اللہ علیہ ) said:

"Another demand of Muslims is concerning the language and transcription. Urdu is our practically national language. We want constitution protection that Urdu shall not be adversely affected or destructed in any manner."

In 1941 while addressing at Aligarh University Hadrat Quaid-i-Azam (رحمۃ اللہ علیہ ) said:

"Let me live in Pakistan leading my life in the light of Islamic history and my own culture and according to my own traditions and keeping my Urdu language in tact."

In 1946 when Sir Feroz Khan Noon (former Prime Minister) wanted to deliver his speech in English, Hadrat Quaid-i-Azam(رحمۃ اللہ علیہ ) intervened and said: The official language of Pakistan shall be Urdu."

In 1948 at Dacca Airport Hadrat Quaid-i-Azam(رحمۃ اللہ علیہ ) said:

"The national and official language of Pakistan shall be Urdu alone."

The object of all this was to maintain our identity as Muslims and as distinct nation with our distinct traditions, culture and religion. All have this right in respect of their respective identities. We must respect each other and our behaviour must be fair and reasonable.National language of PakistanArticle 251 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973 is the Supreme law in Pakistan on the subject of national language of Pakistan. Without prejudice to the status of the National language, a Provincial Assembly may by law prescribe measures for the teaching, promotion and use of a Provincial language in addition to the National language.

The national language under the Constitution of Pakistan is Urdu. For Official purposes until arrangements are made for its replacement by Urdu, the English may be used.Language of subordinate courtSection 137 and 138 of the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 contain the relevant law on the subject of Language. Pleadings are usually presented in Urdu in the Subordinate Courts while both Urdu and English is commonly used in the Superior Courts. There is no bar in addressing the Courts in Urdu upto the level of Supreme Court which is the national language of Pakistan.

The local languages are Baluchi, Pashto, Punjabi and Sindhi. The publication of the notice must be in the National and the local language newspapers to avoid any blame later on. The local languages are also our heritage and those have got full right to develop, flourish and play their natural role. The national language is to assimilate their words in it as is being done in the case of languages of all the worlds where their words can be easily, with convenience and benefit can be so assimilated. We are first and last Pakistanis though by birth we are Pakhtun, Baluch, Sindhi or Punjabi. In a democratic society the national language is the uniting factor and plays much important role. Languages are signs of Allah Almighty who is the Creator of all the universe. Hence all languages belong to Allah. Our religion is Islam and we are all united on لا الہ الا اللہ محمد رسول اللہ [There is no God, save Allah and Hadrat Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah(صَلَّی اللہُ عَلیۡہِ وَ آ لِہٖ وَسَلَّم)]. Muslims taught and learnt other languages and were benefited to explain the teachings of Islam throughout the world. Allah Almighty is all powerful to make one language of the whole world but in His universal wisdom and policy he allowed the diversity of language. It has many and multiple merits and one such merit is to keep alive the search for the Truth and the All True who made all this.

We must stick to the Pakistan Ideology which is Islamic Ideology and no law in Pakistan is to be made which is contrary to the injunctions of Islam. Injunctions means commands and prohibitions contained in the Holy Qur'an and Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (صلی اللہ علیہ و آلہ وسلم).
