Originally he was best known as a major leading man in films. In 1982 Paul Newman (along with author A. E. Hotchner) established the "Newman's Own" brand of foods. The company gives 100% of the after-tax profits from the sale of its products to Newman's Own Foundation (a private non-profit foundation) which in turn, gives the money to various educational and charitable organizations. Since he died in 2008 people are becoming less and less aware of him as an actor but the Newman's Own brand continues to be stocked on grocery store shelves to this day. He is probably now associated in more peoples minds first for his food brand than his acting. Newman's last movie appearance was in a supporting (rather than leading) role as a conflicted mob boss in the 2002 film Road to Perdition and his last TV acting appearance was in 2005 in the HBO mini-series Empire Falls The longer past his demise we go, the more likely people are to only know him from the labels on his food products.
