I was informed that the top of a flag pole was called a truck. Now I learn that it is not a truck but a finial. The turck is the mechanism that connects the finial to the flag pole. IS this correct and where do these words come from.

35" x 52" is the size for a rectangular flag.
They all have the word 'pole' in common... flag-pole - tent-pole - magnetic-pole.
you can take a nail and hammer and nail it to the wall or you can buy a sleeve for the pole that will circle the pole. The flag will just make revolutions around the pole and not wrap. I think it is called Furling. Check the spelling on this.
A flag pole is also called a flag staff. Flags are flown at half-mast when famous people die, but I have never heard of a flag mast. However, the English Oxford dictionary says that a mast can be a flagpole ( as well as a TV antenna)
