The word is "prejudice," and it means prejudgment--an opinion formed before ("pre") you have any information or reason for the opinion.
When it's ethnic, racial, or religious prejudice, it is usually negative (an opinion against some member of the group or the group as a whole). It usually means that you make some kind of judgment against people when all you know is their color or language or religion. For example, if you make a generalization about everyone who speaks a certain language ("People who speak xxxx are lazy"), that's prejudice. Or you take one look at a person and see their ethnicity from their appearance, and so you think you know what they are like. That's prejudice. It's also prejudice if you think well of someone just because they belong to a certain group; for example, "He belongs to my race, so he must be innocent" (nobody of your race ever committed a crime?) or "She speaks my language, so she must be a good candidate for the job" (all people of your language group are automatically best at everything?).
Prejudice works both ways and is always a bad substitute for knowledge of the individual person.

personally I believe anything that is marked with mystery and intrigue, as well as controversy and plagued by stigma and discrimination is appealing for Hollywood. looking at history and the various ways in which it has played a part in socializing and introducing 'taboo' subjects to America, such as feminism, child abuse (particularly sexual), homosexuality, fetishisms of all sorts, and even racism, there tends to be a pattern in where the *affliction* is first treated as somewhat gross or feared or a source of extreme anger, then comes a stage of educating more about the subject, and lastly either a flood of acceptance or an enlightened sense of stigma. wether or not the subject at hand is accepted or treated with further prejudism usually deends somewhat on what and where the religious right (often seen as the polar opposite of Hollywood) tends to fall on either embracing or rejecting the notion. these are just a few thoughts. zfawnz
The first step, and arguably the most effective, would be to move back to Europe. Of course you could take responsibility in government and force your government to honor the treaties they signed; without honoring these treaties there will never be accord between these two cultures.A bit more:That may be one option, but since the majority of prejudice stems from the general public, it seems the logical step would be to begin where it starts - with those who are prejudiced. People need to realize ALL people ARE equal, regardless of their race or nationality. The prejudism, including that towards blacks, stems from ignorance and meanness. The ignorance can be helped, but I don't think there is much hope for meanness. The government can say "We won't tolerate prejudice", but they really can't enforce it, nor can we "force" them to. So that really does leave it up to those of us who are not prejudiced to try to educate those who are.
Prejudices are preconceived opinions or attitudes about a person or group that are not based on reason or actual experience. They often result in unfair treatment or discrimination towards that person or group. It is important to challenge and address prejudices in order to promote understanding and equality.
Jem is the older and only brother of Scout. But he is slightly older than Scout(around 12).Jem is Jeremy Atticus Finch. He is Scout's (Jean Louise Finch and narrator)brother. Jem is one of the main characters.Jem is one of the main characters in the book! If you read more than 2-3 pages of the book, you would know this. I know I'm probably going to answer to an idiot by saying this, but here we go: Jem is son and oldest child of Atticus Finch, Jem's full name is "Jeremy Atticus Finch". Jem is the brother of Scout Finch (AKA "Jean Louise Finch").
Preconceived notions are ideas or beliefs that a person forms, before actually encountering someone or something, or before learning of any evidence about them/it. "Preconceived" (definition from dictionary.com) means, "to form a conception or opinion of beforehand, as before seeing evidence or as a result of a previously held prejudice." "Notions" means ideas or beliefs. For example, a popular preconceived notion is the idea that gay people are likely to molest children. Because it seems like it could possibly be true (if you follow the logic that if someone engages in one abnormal sexual behavior, they are likely to engage in any and all abnormal sexual behaviors), and because of the long history of anti-gay sentiment throughout human history, many people believe that gay people are likely to molest children. Even though they have not done any research on the available evidence (which, by the way, conclusively proves that homosexuality and pedophilia are two completely different things, and that most gay people do NOT in fact molest children) and even though they don't even know any gay people personally, they assume it must be true. Thus, it is a preconceived notion.
