According to a report issued by the U. S. Department of Energy, "Analysis of U.S. School Bus Populations and Alternative Fuel Potential," the U. S. fleet of 458,229 school buses (in 1999-2000) traveled 4.1 billion miles and consumed 556 million gallons of fuel. That is an average of about 7.4 miles per gallon. Of course, that is an average across many sizes and styles of buses, and reflects the stop-and-go operation of these buses. www.nrel.gov/docs/fy04osti/35765.pdf

Without knowing the details regarding your school bus (year, mileage, condition, etc.,) it's difficult to estimate how much your bus is worth on the open market. Your best bet is to check listings for buses in your area and price your bus accordingly.
That varies greatly based on a number of factors. There'll be significant differences between mileage when you compare a school bus driver, metro bus driver, shuttle bus driver, coach bus driver, and anyone driving any other type of bus. It could be as little as a few miles each day, or upwards of 500 miles.
Gas mileage depends, of course, on driving habit as well as driving conditions. Moreover, mileage would depend on if the bus was full of people of not. Generally speaking, a diesel bus get about 4 miles to the gallon fully loaded on the highway, less in during city travel. Rory - retired driver
If you go on that school bus everyday, to and from school, ask your bus driver if anybody has turned in what you are looking for.
