People become depressed because of mental and/or emotional pressure. Many times life just becomes to hard with all the complications and hardships. People feel alone and sometimes ashamed because of what causes their depression, which stops them from asking for help. Yet, many do not realize that it will not get better without help.

There many reasons that could explain why some people get depressed during the winter season. Some people may be less active and drawn indoors because of the cold, making them less social. Being isolated indoors may make people feel like they are left with little options. Also we are experiencing less comfort from being in a constant battle between warm and cold temperatures which can be physically and mentally exhausting. Financially, people are spending more money, going on vacations and spending on presents which can often stress many people out. The imagery of dead trees and little livelihood does not do much for pleasing our eyes. There is also a technical term for seasonal depression called Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD and is a mental disorder under depression.

There can be many reasons why one becomes depressed. What happens in their life has a very big effect on whether they get depression or not. Having a lot of stress seems to be hard on your body and on your moods, people often can get anxiety and sometimes depressed. Or after a pregnancy new mothers can get PPD, the stress they have and all the responsibilities that have now over whelms them and it can result in being depressed. Also the weather effects a lot of people. The lack of light seems to bring people down. The sun has vitamin D and when you soak that up it raises the serotonin in your brain, which is the part of the brain that has a lot to do with you happiness level one could say. So that lack of light and Vitamin D often causes people to become depressed.

SAD, or Seasonal Affective Disorder, is triggered by the drop in sunlight during the winter months. Many SAD sufferers notice big improvements after they buy bright natural sunlight bulbs and sit beneath them for several hours every day. My doctor recommended replacing the overhead bulbs and reading lamp, so that you spend more time under natural light.
