It is a registered trademark sourced from the name of manufactured insulation material made by lamination of various thickness grades of aluminium foil (US/AE, aluminum) with layers of other material(s) such as kraft paper, woven polypropylene substrate, retardant adhesive, or fibreglass (US/AE, fiberglass). The thickness(es) and grades (light to heavy) of the finished products vary depending on intended use (e.g., for insulation, coating, wall wrap, and radiant barriers used for glare reduction), as well as the types, quantities, and thickness of materials incorporated into the finished product. Due to chemical reactivity of aluminium, the product is not alkali-tolerant.
