I remember this well. In the years leading up to the new millenium there was a lot of speculation that computers were not prepared for the rollover from 1999 to 2000. Some computer "experts" were quite concerned, and the public imagination went wild. There were predictions of a complete crash on all computer processes - you might not even be able to turn them on after midnight, Dec. 31, 1999. It was nicknamed, "the millenium bug".
Many people were genuinely frightened by the rumors; I even knew people who were stockpiling large quantities of non-perishable food - just in case. Everything from loss of our national power and communications grids to the collapse of civilization, and maybe Armagedon. We're still here, and the prophecies of economic collapse were several years too early.
January 1, 2000, came and went and everything went on as always, including my computer - and everyone else's.
