The statute of limitation on debt collection is the same in every state of the United States under the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collections Practices Act)/ The Act provided creditors seven years from the date of last payment to collect a debt. In the event the creditor obtains a judgment, he then has ten years to collect the debt. In the event the creditor is unable to satisfy the judgment in that ten years, he may petition the courts for an additional ten years. In essence, a debt can hang over your head for twenty seven years.

Oral contracts are 3 years, all others are six. Unscrupulous debt collectors may still try to take you to court. If you receive a summons to appear in court, you must answer and appear in court otherwise they can obtain a judgment based on default (no answer and no show by defendant). However, you can raise the defense that the claim is time-barred under Washington state statutes and the judge should dismiss the claim.

Keep in mind that a judgment against you may include a levy against earnings, bank accounts, cars and even your home. Most states have the controlling laws (statutes) online and it is best to check this directly as I am not an attorney and cannot give you legal advice.

That would be 2 years after the payments were supposed to end. Which could be when the child turns 18 or perhaps 21 or even graduates college.
