It sounds like the mediastinum muscle in the chest has a wrinkle in it and is trying to get rid of it with hiccups. There are also other reasons for chronic hiccups. See your general practitioner or go to the Urgent Care clinic your insurance carrier covers. If it gets extremely painful go to the emergency department at the hospital covered by your insurance carrier. Now this is going to sound strange. My physician mother had an old remedy that worked well on me when I was I child. I got the hiccups often. She would give me a heaping teaspon of sugar. She made me swallow it alone with no liquid. It worked well. But, remember the information I gave you above is crucial. Do not do the sugar routine if the person is in terrible pain. Seek medical care.
