The AIR RAID PRECAUTION was an organization set up by one of the ministries in in the United Kingdom for the protection of the general populace in the event of Air Raids. They issued gas masks, Anderson Shelters and Morrison Shelters (residential bomb shelters) and blackout drapes, curtains or fabrics for homemade window coverings. They monitored businesses and homes to see that everyone complied with the blackout rules, air raid and shelter rules.

Their saddest job was to pull dead and injured people from the rubble of bombed buildings. Some of the underground shelters were bombed and they had to conduct rescues and withdraw the bodies from those sites too.

They often worked with the Home Guard assisting with fires, directing people to the shelters and aiding families with their children (to get to a safe place). They dealt with communications, radios, written message delivery and telegrams.
