It started some time in the 17th century :)
1) American sugar, tobacco, and cotton to Europe 2) European rum, textiles, & manufactured goods to Africa 3) African slaves to the Americas
The African slave trade began around 1440. European countries shipped goods to African rulers who traded for slaves to be sent to the American continent. From America, slave-produced goods such as cotton, rum and molasses were shipped to Europe, completing this slave triangle. This continued into the 1700s.
Africans became slaves through various means, such as being captured in wars, being kidnapped, or being sold by other Africans. European colonizers played a significant role in the transatlantic slave trade by forcibly enslaving Africans and transporting them to the Americas to work on plantations.
The slave trade triangle refers to the historical system of trading enslaved people between Europe, Africa, and the Americas. European ships would transport goods to Africa to trade for enslaved individuals, who were then taken to the Americas to be sold as laborers. The profits from selling enslaved people in the Americas would then be used to buy goods to transport back to Europe, completing the triangular trade route.

Africans captured in intertribal warfare or raids were often sold as slaves by African slave owners to European and Arab traders along the coast. These traders then transported the enslaved Africans to the Americas or the Middle East for sale.
