A number of things will happen when the battery goes dead on your 2003 E320. First of all the car will not start. But it is important to known what happened prior the battery failing. Your 2003 E320 and all 2003-2006 E-Class have 2 batteries. The first battery, which is in the trunk, is the starting battery. It supplies the power to start the car, and supplies the accessories while the car is running. The second battery, which is located under the hood keep the memory of various control modules. An example would be: it supplies power to the door control module even when the main battery is dead so that what the main battery is replaced, you do not have to reprogram your memory seats. The car will automatically start to shut off electrical consumers when it feels there is not enough battery voltage to run all of them. It will try to recharge the battery, but if not get a replacement and put a new one in. If all else fails call 1-800-FOR-MERC and Mercedes will send you a roadside technician. They will have a battery and can replace it on the spot. Best part is you only pay for the battery, the labor is free. Somewhat cheaper than taking it to a dealer.

Actually, the main battery is located in the trunk. Remove trunk liner and it will be on the right next to the spare tire. The auxillary battery is located under the hood, next to the engine under the cabin filter. If you're having trouble with the main battery, you will probably need to check that one out as well.TO RESET YOUR ENTIRE SYSTEM ELECTRONICALLY YOU NEED TO DISCONNECT THE AUXILARY BATTERY UNDER THE BONNET ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE WHICH SITS BELOW THE POLLEN FILTER. THIS PROCEEDURE WILL RESET YOU ENTIRE SYSYTEM BACK TO RAW FACTORY SETTINGS AND ERASE ALL ERROR MESSAGES FROM THE CPU. ONCE YOU HAVE COMPLETED THIS THEN RESET YOUR PREFERENCES FOR DRIVING VIA THE STEERING WHEEL BUTTONS FOR INSTRUMENTATION, LIGHTS, VEHICLE, TIME & DATE WITH CONVENIENCE SETTINGS SUCH AS MIRRORS CLOSURE.This will not work on a 2003 E320 CDI. I tried it and it made no difference whatsoever!! Error messages are still there.
