Types and styles of music are not really two words that form a dichotomy. The concept of music Style is more likely to be linked to the rhythm itself and so specific, for example: ChaCha, Tango, Beguine, Bossa are styles of music.

However music Types is the name of the concept representing a wider category. As an example; the rhythms mentioned previously are all belonging to the Latin Music Type, Latino.

Jazz_fusion, swing, Bebop.. also some Latin styles are all includes in the Jazz type.

So you have styles included in each type of music.

for Arabic music the Type is Arabic music and the styles are represented through the countries that share the same Arab musical specs.

A genre is the term for any category of literature based on a distinctive stylistic criteria. A theme or multiple themes can be found within a genre and usually relate to the time and context it was written. A theme is a broad idea, message, or moral of the story.

If a novel can be described as having a Gothic genre, it may cover such themes as religion and romance. However, the same themes can be found in different genres. The genre is more about how the themes are dealt with. The Gothic genre may offer a stark, supernatural outlook of religion, whereas a genre on Satire might offer a humourous depiction of religion and any other of its themes.

A genre has other tell-tale elements aside from it's themes. It's tone, writing style, characterisation, setting, motifs and it's reason for being written all contribute to the genre. The themes are significant, but offer a small part in the scale of the genre.

Genre: a broad definition by which stories can be grouped by any prominent feature(s). For example any stories that have a common culture (or setting) can be said to belong to a particular genre; so you have westerns, nautical, historical, Gothic, scientific. Such stories can still have widely divergent plots (action/adventure, mystery, romance, disaster, adultery, coming of age, etc) and still belong to a cultural genre. Conversely we can define genre by plot (action/adventure, mystery, romance, disaster, adultery, coming of age, etc) and have widely divergent setting (or cultures) within those definitions.

So lets pick a genre, say Science Fiction (a setting or cultural definition) and see what plots we can apply to it.

* action adventure - War of the Worlds * Romance - Time enough for Love * Mystery - The unspeakable McInch * Disaster - The Andromeda Strain * Adultery - A Might Worthy of Rule * Coming of Age - The Chrysalid Now lets pick a genre by plot Action/Adventure and see what settings we can apply.

* Western - The Good the Bad and the Ugly * Nautical - The Odyssey of Ulysses, Seven Voyages of Sinbad * Historical - Kingdom of Heaven * Gothic - Any of the Blade episodes * Scientific - Any CSI episode Obviously we could do this all day - or even week.

Style: a means of doing things especially concerned with the mechanics of writing.

A direct style: She bent over and picked up the pen.

An intense style: With a dreamy intensity she stooped to the floor; enclosed her finger about the cylinder of the pen, pausing to feel its meager weight, rising as if in recollection of her purpose.

A cockney style: She knew where the mere thing was but left it there as that was sufficient to the purpose of it at the time. After all be that the purpose of any leaving of a thing: to know the where of it till one actually has a needs of it. But then, finding herself with such a need of such a thing at such a time, she made herself the right exertion to the recovery of it and of a getting on with the work of it.

Genres of music contain general characteristics that cover the types of instruments used, tempo, lyrical content, vocals, etc. For example, you wouldn't mistake hip hop for death metal or country for jazz.

Genre is used much more commonly and is a more general categorization than form; examples are "jazz", "rock" and "classical" - beyond the big obvious ones, these quickly become a matter of subjective opinion.

Form really just means "type" in normal usage, and is usually used for "sub-genres" in a general sense (blues is a form of folk music), but within the more structured genres like classical or even some areas of jazz, certain forms - "Opera" and "symphony" are good examples - aren't just "forms of Classical Music" but well-defined, distinct categories in their own right.

Just remember Music is an art, not a science, so you're likely to get all kinds of differences of opinion among experts if you try to get them to agree on set of classifying terms.

Put simply, "Genre" refers to type of art, i.e., subject matter. In movies or books example would be comedy, drama, Horror, sci-fi, etc. "Style" refers to method/medium such as watercolors, oils, acrylic and/or abstract, impressionist, etc. I am reasonably sure this is correct.

What is the difference between a subject and a theme?

The difference between a subject and a theme is that a subject is just a noun; whereas a theme is a statement (with a subject and a verb). You can infer a theme from details in a story that the author implies. An author almost never says what a theme is.
