India got independence from Britain in 15.8.1947.

Indians lead many campaigns against Britain, starting from the Sepoy Mutiny in 1857 up to Mahathma Gandhi's Civil disobedience movement, non cooperation movement etc.

Their struggle for independence was pioneered by politicians like Mahatma Gandhi, Surendranath Banerjee, Alan Octavian Hume etc.

But India was divided into two, and a separate Muslim state in the request of Mohammad Ali Jinnah. That state is now known as Pakistan. There had been border struggles between Pakistan and India ever since.

The new constitution of India was implemented in 26.01.1950. From then India has transformed to a powerful democratic country.
