There were two Kingdom of Italy:

- the first one was a vassal state set up by Napoleon the First, who crowned himself Emperor of the French and King of Italy in 1805. It lasted until April 16, 1814, the day of the first abdication of Napoleon at Fontainebleau;

- the second one, proclaimed on March 17,1861 after the so called Unification of Italy, was ruled by the constitutional Monarchy of Savoy and lasted until June 18, 1946, when after a popular referendum, whose outcome was in favour of the proclamation of the Republic of Italy, the last king Umberto the Second was dismissed and went in exile without formally abdicate from the throne.
