It is a commercial unit used to measure the effectiveness of thermal insulation. A thermal insulator is a material, manufactured in sheets, that resists conducting heat energy. Its thermal conductance is measured, in traditional units, in Btu's of energy conducted times inches of thickness per hour of time per square foot of area per Fahrenheit degree of temperature difference between the two sides of the material. The R value of the insulator is defined to be 1 divided by the thermal conductance per inch. This means R is an abbreviation for the complex unit combination hr·ft2·°F/Btu. In SI units, an R value of 1 equals 0.17611 square meter kelvins per watt (m2·K/W). In clothing insulation units this is about 1.136 clo or 1.7611 tog. Usually the symbol R is placed before the numerical value, as in R15 or R-15.

What is energy R-factor?

The R-value is a measure of thermal resistance used in the building and construction industry.

Is Thermal energy is an average value?

yes

Is thermal energy an average value?

yes

Is r-value good or bad?

it is a good thing i think R Value is the thermal resistance of a given material. The higher the R Value the more thermal resistance and the better the insulation. So, an R48 roof system is warmer than an R32 roof system. All insulation materials are rated by their R Value. An inch of rigid insulation has a higher R Value than an inch of fiberglass insulation. Check with the insulation manufacturer for the R Value.

Which describes the thermal energy of particles in a substance?

total value of all kinetic and potential energy

What is the best type of attic insulation?

Insulation is rated in terms of thermal resistance, called R-value, which indicates the resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating effectiveness. The R-value of thermal insulation depends on the type of material, its thickness, and its density. In calculating the R-value of a multi-layered installation, the R-values of the individual layers are added.
