It stands for 'Winter'. It is designed to stop wheel spin and aid traction when pulling away on snow or ice (or mud). It does this by pulling away in 2nd gear instead of 1st and changing gear earlier (at lower revs).
W stands for winter. It helps to control your starts so that you don't spin out when beginning to accelerate.
This button is for winter mode. The transmission will start in 3rd gear thus reducing wheel spin when starting from a stop in slippery conditions.
W. Michael Gear was born in 1955.
The W/S button on the by the shift selector indicates what mode the transmission is in. "W" means winter and starts the car out in second gear to increase traction. "S" means sport and increases the amount of time (shown to you in RPMs) the car stays in a particular gear. "S" is designed to make the gear ratios taller, therfore adding to performance.
it turns clockwise. Firing order of Volvo 240 w/B230 1342
The W button will be on the center consul near the gear selector, it is used for wet or winter weather as it changes the shift patterns for smoother starts and shifts for increased traction. (note): W button is on a toggle switch with an S so in fact it is a W/S button.
Wet weather gear?
The "W",winter mode button is pressed and you probably put the gear selector lever in position "3". Put selector lever in "D" and press the "E" economy mode button.
they told me on mine it was a w stands for the kind of curve my gear shift has
PI * W * (2 * D - L) * (L - D) Sometimes 3 is used instead of PI, and may actually be closer due to mechanical efficiency. Formula is the same for CID as it is for cm3 (CC's), just a matter if you use inches or centimeters for L, D and W. W = Height of gear (how thick the gear is). D = Diameter of gear. L = Length from edge of one gear to the edge of the other across both gears.
W = Winter S = Summer The car will start in 2nd gear when in winter mode.
It has to do with the transmission mission. The 'S' stands for standard, and the 'W' stands for winter. When you are in 'S' mode, the transmission starts out in 1st gear normally, but when you select 'W' mode, the transmission will start out in 2nd gear, to help reduce wheel slip on slippery surfaces.
