Answer BAisha_was_19_years_old_when_the_prophet_pbuh_married_her._Some_say_16_years_old,_other_say_something_else.">An authentic hadith says that Aisha was 19 years old when the prophet pbuh married her. Some say 16 years old, other say something else. But you must know that in the time of the prophet pbuh there was no year counting like we have now (2008 A.C. or 1429 A.H.)

I give you an example.

If we asked people (of his time) "when was Muhammad pbuh born?", the people would not say 570, or 50 B.H. No, they would say: " he was born in the year of the Elephants."

But when was the year of the Elephants?, well (he says), That was after blablabla and I remember this event.

And you will ask somebody else. he will answer the same: year of Oliphants, but he will give you another timeline and events.

So you get confused!.

The only thing that you can do, is saying it was between this major event, and that major event. And if we translate this into "years" we get periods of 10 or more years.

So that it is why we do not know for sure at wich age Aisha married with the prophet pbuh. But the haters of Islam choose always the lowest, or even lower.

Answer C

  • Prophet Muhammad consummation with Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) was when she was nineteen years old and this was in the year 2 A.H.. Betrothal having taken place five years earlier.
  • When her father, Abu Bakr, was approached on behalf of the Prophet, he replied that the girl had already been betrothed to some one called Jubair, and that he would have to settle the matter first with him. This shows that Aisha must have been approaching majority at the time.
  • Although, in some historical Islamic books, it was mentioned that Aisha betrothal was at age 6 and marriage was at age 9, evidences and historical analysis proved that these information is not authentic and is not correct.

Answer D: Source Material:

Several Hadiths quite clearly disaree with the above analysis and show that Aisha married Aisha at the age of 6 and consummated the marriage at age 9.

  • Volume 7, Book 62, Number 64: Narrated by 'Aisha
That the Prophet married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old, and then she remained with him for nine years (i.e., till his death).
  • Volume 7, Book 62, Number 65: Narrated by 'Aisha
That the Prophet married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old, Hisham said: I have been informed that 'Aisha remained with the Prophet for nine years (i.e. till his death)." What you know of the Quran (by heart)'
  • Volume 7, Book 62, Number 88: Narrated by 'Ursa
The Prophet wrote the (marriage contract) with 'Aisha while she was six years old and consummated his marriage with her while she was nine years old and she remained with him for nine years (i.e. till his death).
  • Volume 5, Book 58, Number 234: Narrated by 'Aisha
The Prophet engaged me when I was a girl of six (years). We went to Medina and stayed at the home of Bani-al-Harith bin Khazraj. Then I got ill and my hair fell down. Later on my hair grew (again) and my mother, Um Ruman, came to me while I was playing in a swing with some of my girl friends. She called me, and I went to her, not knowing what she wanted to do to me. She caught me by the hand and made me stand at the door of the house. I was breathless then, and when my breathing became Allright, she took some water and rubbed my face and head with it. Then she took me into the house. There in the house I saw some Ansari women who said, "Best wishes and Allah's Blessing and a good luck." Then she entrusted me to them and they prepared me (for the marriage). Unexpectedly Allah's Apostle came to me in the forenoon and my mother handed me over to him, and at that time I was a girl of nine years of age.
  • Volume 5, Book 58, Number 236: Narrated by Hisham's father
Khadija died three years before the Prophet departed to Medina. He stayed there for two years or so and then he married 'Aisha when she was a girl of six years of age, and he consumed that marriage when she was nine years old.

Answer E: Comment on Answer D above

It is important to emphasize that at the prophet time there was no accurate recordings of ages. So, all what is narrated are coming from one source and are based on guessing and rough estimation. So, the only way is to validate the different narrations and judge on their authenticities and not to rely only on narrations. That is why one is kindly invited to refer to the referred link and judge with you mind especially that; as mentioned above in Answer C; that when father of Aisha , Abu Bakr, was approached on behalf of the Prophet, he replied that the girl had already been betrothed to some one called Jubair, and that he would have to settle the matter first with him. This shows that Aisha must have been approaching majority at the time.

Answer F

The suggestion that the seventh-century Arabs could not track time accurately is misleading. They did not have modern astronomy, but the Arab biographies of Tabari and Ibn Saad give the age at death of nearly everyone. If nearly all Arabs knew their age to the nearest year, and if many people knew their age to the month, this shows that the Arabs generally thought in numerical categories. If they had not had a more or less accurate calendar and known their own ages, this information would simply be missing from their biographies.

Aisha was unusually good at arithmetic (Ibn Saad vol. 8, Bewley's translation p. 47), so there is no reason why she would not have known her age. She told her nephew Urwa that she was born "at the beginning of the fourth year" (Ibn Saad vol. 8, Bewley's translation p. 55). This was the year that began on 25 October 613. If Aisha knew the time of year, she is unlikely to have been wrong about the year itself. Incidentally, this tradition comes to us via Urwa's servant Habib, not via his son Hisham, so the objections that people sometimes make to Hisham (spurious though they are) do not apply in this case.

Modern suggestions that Aisha was significantly older than nine usually come from nice people who oppose child-marriage. However, their arguments are not convincing to Muslim scholars. Sheikh Gibril F. Haddad has refuted most of their arguments (Google for him at Sunni Path).

One correction to answer C: the sources say that Muhammad contracted marriage with Aisha in 3BH and consummated the marriage in 1AH (Ibn Saad vol. 8, Bewley's translation p. 43; Tabari, Poonawala's translation, vol. 9 p. 131; Tabari, Landau-Tasseron's translation, vol. 39 p. 171). This was three years later, not five. Remember, there is no such year as 0! The calendar jumps straight from 1BH to 1AH. Shawwal 3BH equates to May or June 620; Shawwal 1AH is April or May 623.

As for the fact that Aisha was engaged to someone else before she married Muhammad (Tabari, Poonawala's translation, vol. 9 pp. 129-130): this proves that she had been born but it does not prove she was any particular age. In Arabia (as in nearly everywhere else in the world) it was commonplace to arrange marriages for infants. The earlier a child's marriage could be arranged, the safer his or her future prospects. Since Aisha's father was wealthy, it is not at all surprising that one of the neighbours raced to secure Aisha as a bride while she was still in her cradle. However, in this case the engagement was informal and not a binding marriage.

Common sense shows that Aisha could not have been as old as 19 or even 16 when she married Muhammad. She was playing on a swing when she was called away for her wedding (Ibn Majah 3:1876; Tabari, Poonawala's translation, vol. 9 p. 131). She played with dolls for years after her marriage (Bukhari 8:73:151; Muslim 8:3311; Muslim 31:5981; Ibn Saad vol. 8, Bewley's translation pp. 43, 44). She could read but she could not write (Baladhuri, Murgotten's translation vol. 2 p. 272), suggesting that her education had been interrupted. When she was first married she could not cook (NASA'i al-Kubra vol. 16 #8917; Bukhari 3:48:829). She had not begun to menstruate as late as July 628 (Bukhari 3:48:805; Bukhari 3:48:829; Bukhari 8:73:151; Muslim 4:1940) but she afterwards developed a normal cycle (Bukhari's Mufrad 6:66:120 and much other evidence, too boring to list here). If she had been 19 in 623, that would make her nearly 25 when she reached puberty, which is definitely not normal.

Answer G

I wonder about all the debates above about Aisha age when got married to the prophet. It is enough to mention that she was engaged to someone else (polytheist) before got married to the prophet. The other point is that one should refer to the cultures of the Arabs at that time and what was the usual age for girls marriage. The third point is that what are the motivations behind non Muslims to be so propagating their views against Islam religion and against their prophet.

What killed Muhammad?

Answer AMuhammad, peace be upon him, lived to the ripe age of sixty-three. He was not killed. Having completed his mission, by the last verses of the Qur'an, the conquering of Mecca and the completion of the Pilgrimmage, he returned to the City of Medinah. Soon, the Prophet became ill. He had a headache which lasted some days. Then, after those days, he passed away. He was in the apartment of his wife Aisha. She held his head in her lap as he departed to God. They prepared him for burial by washing him - while still in his clothing, out of respect; and they buried him right where he was laying, for the Prophet said that every prophet is buried in the place where he dies.Peace be upon him, and upon all of God's Prophets.Answer BMost likely Mohammad was killed by a Jewish woman who poisoned him as a revenge for killing her family. The following testimony from Aisha, the youngest wife of Muhammad, makes this conclusion valid. Sahih Bukhari V5, B59, N713 reported:…Narrated 'Aisha: "The prophet in his ailment in which he died, used to say, 'O 'Aisha! I still feel the pain caused by the food I ate at 'Khaibar, and now, I feel as if my aorta is being cut from that poison." (After a failed attempt to go to Mecca Mohammad and his followers attacked and plundered the weaker Jewish settlement of Khaibar where he was poisoned)Muhammad died in 632 AD.Answer C (comment on the above)Prophet Muhammad was not killed. He died with natural causes. The answer above is not correct. Answerer has misinterpreted the prophet Muhammad saying (or hadith) , as Muhammad (pbuh) died many years after he was poisoned and after the time this hadith was narrated. He led an active live afterward until the time of his natural death in year 632 AD.

The Prophet Muhammad was a human being just like you and me. Also we all die. Muhammad just came because he was carrying on Islam, reminding people to stop worshiping people. This life is a test and if we keep getting help there is no pint in that. It is to prove how good you are to Allah.
