Marlin Model 336 and Models 39-A and 39-M manufactured from 1948 to 1968: A one or two letter code was used to designate the year of manufacture. All Marlins (except lever action) manufactured from 1962-1968 A two letter code was used to designate month and year of manufacture. All Marlins manufactured from 1969 to 1990: The first two digits of the serial number designate the year of manufacture, either as the last two digits of the year (in 1969-71) or as a number code (1971 and later). Go to this website and enter the code found on your rifle. http://armscollectors.com/sn/marlinlookup.php

MSRP new was $447.00. The serial tells that it was made in 1995 (first 2 #'s minus 100). You could get between 340-400 if it is in PERFECT shape.

User Avatar

The way to find the year on Marlin rifles manufactured after 1972 is to take the first two digits and subtract them from 100. 100-11=89 so your rifle was made in 1989.

Serial number records for Marlins built after 1906 are not recorded. At WWI Marlin Firearms Co. was sold, and again after WWI, so serial numbers were started over, with prefix letters. Your gun could be from anywhere between 1922, and 1935, but with the B prefix, and tang marking of "Model 1893", I'd guesstimate it to be in the earlier part of that range.
