This depends on state law , some it is 16 years old and for others it is 18 or 21. What do you mean by gun a rifle or shotgun a BB gun or a pistol?
Along with ownership comes responsibility, you are responsible for your actions the law is to make reasonable demands on the owner as to the safety issues involved not only for himself but others as well. An 18 year old in the Army may well own a firearm and know how to use this. However many 18 year olds may not be trained nor mature enough to have me want to see them own any type firearm. Reasonable judgment and good intentions are more important than age.

As far as I know, there isn't a law against shooting ages, only purchasing.

∙ 7y agoDepends on what you mean by "weapon", and on what the laws are where YOU live. If you mean a firearm- in the US you must be 18 to purchase a rifle or shotgun, and 21 for other firearms. With other items, such as knives, swords, cannon, bows, tanks, aircraft carriers or nuclear weapons- you will have to refine your question a bit. You may own pointy sticks and rocks at any age.

∙ 6y agoThere is a legal difference between OWNING and POSSESSING a firearm. You may OWN a firearm at any age. You may POSSESS one under the supervision of a parent or (with parent's permission) an instructor at just about any age. How old you must be to use a firearm without parental supervision varies from one state to another. In many states if you are 14, have completed a hunter safety course, have a hunting license and permission of your parents, you can hunt on your own. My granddaughters began shooting with me at age 10- but always WITH me. You can check on line with the Game Wardens in your state. To BUY a gun from a Dealer, you must be 18 for a rifle or shotgun, 21 for a handgun- anywhere in the US.
