A president can be in office a total of two terms. Some presidents have been in office a little longer than that, but after Roosevelt was elected 4 times, a law was passed that 8 years was the limit. People wanted George Washington to be in office longer than 8 years, but he refused not wanting America to have anyone like a king. (The whole reason why we fought the Revolutionary War.)
It's 10 years. If the vice-president succeeds a sitting president and serves 2 years or less of that president's term then the vice-president can still serve 2 terms of 4 years each (assuming he can get elected) so that's 2 + 4 + 4 = 10. That's the only way that can happen. If a person is elected to the office of president then it's 2 terms = 8 years. But the maximum any person could conceivably serve is 10 years.
the lenght of time that officials serve. the lenght of time that officials serve.

10 years (not 8) [novanet]
There are many citizens who believe Obama is trying to be a king, but the truth is, he is just being a president with the amount of time he is able to be in office.
William Henry Harrison, died on his 32nd day in office of complications from pneumonia.
Franklin Roosevelt was the only one to serve for four terms as president.
Term of office is the length of time for which an official is elected to serve. For example, it is two years for a Representative to the House, six years for a US senator and 4 years for the President.
The Secretary of State is one of the President's cabinet members, who are appointed by the President and some are approved by the Senate. They serve the length of term of the President or until the President convinces them to resign so he can replace them.
Of course! Every 4 years there is an election. A President may serve two terms, but must be elected for each term individually.
The amount of time they spend in office. 4 years, unless re-elected, then 8. but they can only serve 2 terms.
William Henry Harrison has that unfortunate distinction-- he died of pneumonia after just one month as president.
222 years ( and about 5 months) is the total time in office for the 43 presidents. The first president took office in April of 1789 and the government has been in continuous operation with a President in office ever since that time ,
There is no fixed length of the office of president world-wide; there are several nations that have presidents. In the United States the standard term is 4 years in length, starting January 20 following the November elections. A US president can currently be elected to 2 terms and no more. However, a US president could serve up to 10 years. If the next-in-line takes the office of president from a president who is no longer able to serve, and if the time left is less than half of the term, the new president may still run for and serve two terms of his/her own. If the time left is more than half of the former president's term, the new president can run for only one four-year term of his/her own.
It means he has put pressure on the Judges to do his will only, or he will cut their salary and the amount of time they serve in office
Executive=President Presidents serve for 4 years, with possibility of one-time reelection. His cabinet goes with him after he leaves office (They too, serve 4 years, unless he kicks them out).
