The size of motorcycle tires is measured in the width, height and depth. The width is the distance between two parallel lines that are perpendicular to each other. It can be measured with a ruler or by measuring the diameter of the tire from one edge to another.
The height is how high a wheel will reach above ground level when it's mounted on a bike frame. This measurement does not include any suspension parts like forks or shocks which are used to increase ground clearance for off-road use.
The depth is how deep a wheel will go into its frame when mounted on a bike frame and includes any extra space taken up by its suspension parts like forks or shocks.
For example: If you want your bike's front wheel to reach over 6 inches above ground level when it's mounted on your bike, then you would need to buy 4 inch wide wheels (2" x 2"). If you want your bike's front wheel to reach 12 inches above ground level when it's mounted on your bike, then you would need too buy 5 inch wide wheels (2" x 3"). If you want your bike's front wheel to reach 18 inches above ground level when it's mounted on your bike, then you would need too buy 6 inch wide wheels (2" x 4").
I hope this answers all of your questions! Thanks for reading!

The 'best' tire size is most often the stock tire size. When you try to install a wider tire the same size wheel the tire shape/profile typically becomes distorted resulting in abnormal steering character and abnormal tire wear. If you really want a wider tire the right way to get there is to match the wider tire with a corresponding wider wheel.
