you need to press out the bearing inside the hub assembly.
If you're trying to replace the rear wheel bearing and all you can find is the rear hub assembly, it probably means that you can't get just the bearing. Many vehicle manufacturers press the bearing into the assembly at the factory and there is no way to replace just the bearing. If they're offering the assembly, that's probably what you'll need to buy.
A wheel bearing is pressed in to the hub so that it is able to safely operate. To replace a bearing on a Chevy Impala remove the hub from the car and take the unit to a machinist. Have the press out the old bearing and press in the new one.
If you have a good size arbor press (12 ton, relatively inexpensive) and the equivalents of the called for tools (also relatively inexpensive) you can press out the hub from the steering knuckle/bearing assembly, then press out the bearing from the knuckle, press the new bearing back into the knuckle and then the hub back into the knuckle/bearing assembly then reinstall into your vehicle... or you can take the steering knuckle assembly to a machine shop and have them do it. If you think it's something you may do more than once, buy the tools. Incidentally, after 1994 the hub and bearing replacement is a very easy operation; just take out the hub/bearing assembly and install a new one. I just did it on my 1996 Taurus, basically the same car. The 1994 is a major pain by comparison. If the bearing starts to fail after a short period of time, then you need a new knuckle; you drove the car on a bad bearing for too long.
YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE HUB ASSEMBLY OFF AND HAVE A SHOP PRESS THE BEARING,OR REPLACE THE HUB ASSEMBLY FROM A SALVAGE YARD.
i just recently did this and its not easy lol. you have to completely remove the spindle from the car and press the wheel bearing out along with the hub assembly.
AnswerRemove the wheel, and then remove the brake assembly then remove the rotor next you will have to remove the front axle. Once this is removed you will now be able to see the bearing now you have to remove the housing that the bearing is located in it should be 3 bolts that hold it in place once you get it free you then need to have the old bearing pulled out by a hydraulic press and then have a new bearing pressed in. Most machine shops are able to remove and press the new bearings in once the new bearing is in just reassemble everything. This is a time consuming project.
You will need to remove the spindle from the vehicle and use an arbor press to separate spindle from bearing and bearing from hub. There is also a snap ring (circlip) you will need to remove. Use the press to reassemble. If you do not have an arbor press, remove the spindle and bring to a machine shop for pressing.
You don't have to change the CV axle, as the wheel bearing is located in the hub assembly. To change just the bearing you'll have to press the old one out of the hub. Installation of the new bearing is the reverse of removal. However I recommend replacing the 🏠 hub and bearing as a unit. You'll still have to press the hub out of the steering knuckle, but this method will prevent damage to the bearing..
this is a sealed hub and bearing assembly. it should come with the "hub" the flange with the lug studs sticking out, and pressed into the bearing housing.. if u just received a bearing only.. u will need new seals and a press..
you have to get the whole hub assembly replaced, usually 4-5 hours of work If you have a press, you can pop the old bearing out of the hub and press a new one back in.
Unless you have access to a press or bearing removal tools this is not the job for at home. The bearing is pressed into the hub. You need to remove the spindle, press out the old and press in the new.
