It is a 48 'group'. For example a Diehard 'International' 48 group is a replacement. Delco/ Interstate ect all manufacture a 'Group 48' type for a Merced.es. You can specify the CCA ( cold cranking amps) eg. 700CCA or 850CCA. If lots of stop starts in cold weather , purchase a larger CCA

DOT 4 Standard
5w30 full synthetic
Mobil 1 0W-40
5/40 synthetic oil , Mercedes dealers use mobil 1 brand , but any brand will do.
I used top octane in my 1998 E320 before gas prices got up to $4.00 - now I use the middle octane. Mercedes recommends Premium fuel because of the way the engine is designed and the sensors. It runs much better on premium anyways. and if you cant afford the premium gas you have no business owning a mercedes.
If the engine is a diesel use diesel fuel. If the engine is a gasoline engine use unleaded gasoline.

I called my Mercedes Benz shop (Holloway Motors) in Manchester, NH and the guy (Chris) said it was ok to use approved Dexron 111 ATF in place of the power steering fluid from the dealership because I live far from there and wanted a replacement that was SAFE! He read this straight from his manual so I trust him.
Look in Owners Manual for size and amp capacity. Battery dealers will sell you the correct type.
