The purpose of any catalytic converter is to reduce harmful emissions from the exhaust of a combustion engine. It accomplishes this through a combination of heat and a precious metal catalyst that causes the harmful emissions to either oxidize or reduce to safe elements in the exhaust flow. If the engine is out-of-tune and not calibrated to OEM specs, the catalytic converter's efficiency is greatly diminished and could lead to a converter failure. cited from http://bba-reman.com/cats.htm

How do you change a Cadillac converter in a 2000 Honda civic ex?

Its called a catalytic converter. The American car company "Cadillac" does not manufacture converters for our vehicles. Remove it using two 14mm sockets. It is after the exhaust manifold down pipe and the exhaust system.

What are two ways car manufactures air using to reduce air pollution?

More fuel efficient engines. Catalytic converters in the exhaust.

What are the benefits of using GPS tracking systems in vehicles?

It lets you know where the vehicles are located, where they have been, the speed the vehicle is moving.

What are advantages of using catalyst?

In the chemical industry and the industrial research, catalysis play an important role. The different catalysts are in constant development to fulfill economic, political and environmental demands. When using a catalyst it is possible to replace a polluting chemical reaction with a more environmental friendly alternative. Today, and in the future this can be vital for the chemical industry. The catalysts could help in accelerating chemical reactions and/or making it possible at lower temperatures.

Why are catalytic converters fitted into cars?

To clean up exhaust emissions, particularly carbon monoxide. The old suicide method of running a car engine in a sealed space is now almost impossible! However, in a recent episode of Emmerdale, they got round that issue by using a very old Citroen 2CV, which never had a catalytic converter.

What are some business benefits of using tracking systems on vehicles?

Some benefits of using tracking systems are: A tracking system can be used to locate a stolen vehicle. Keeping clients aware of the position of their goods. Better management of fuel and time.

Will you lose compression without a catalyc converter?

no. compression can be lost in different ways such as, when the either the cylinder walls or the rings around the piston wear out, bent or broken valves, broken piston or possibly a head gasket. catalytic converters are on car to reduce emissions only. they do so by using a catalyst to convert carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides into less harmful gases. catalytic converters can "plug up" and create back pressure in the exhaust causing the engin not to run properly or at all.

What is iL crime for not using a catalytic converter?

It is not Ill you have to worry about. It is the EPA that sets the rules for converters. It is illegal in all 50 states to not have a converter on a vehicle that came from the factory with one unless it is a race vehicle not driven on the roads. Fines are from $2,500 to $25,000.

Why do catalytic converters do not work effctively until the engine has warmed up?

A catalytic converter changes unburned hydrocarbons into carbon dioxide and water vapor. It's a simple chemical process, and like most chemical processes, it will either generate or absorb heat so in this case, since the catalytic converter requires heat to change the state of the hydrocarbons, it either has to be heated or it will operate quite effectively using the exhaust heat. Note, if the engine is operating efficiently there should be very little for the catalytic converter to do.

The Benefits of Investing in Electronic Vehicles?

There are a number of great benefits associated with electronic vehicles, however the two most commonly cited are the financial savings and convenience. Since electronic vehicles can be refilled using a variety of different means, you are not tied to the price of oil. Also, since it is an all around cleaner operation, you don't have to worry nearly as much about things breaking down and costing you more to maintain.
