Under these conditions, you should be thinking carefully about buying a dog. Dogs are very social animals which thrive best if they are actively part of a pack (which is often formed by a human family). If you have little time to care for a dog, you need to reconsider your choice of pet, as all Dog Breeds require exercise and attention.

However, if there are other family members around to give the dog attention, but you personally do not have time to care for it, the top dogs recommended under these circumstances are:

  • Golden retriever - according to the "Burke's Backyard" website, these dogs are fairly low maintenance, needing a decent brush just once a week. However, they do prefer to be indoor dogs, and need plenty of exercise as they tend to put on weight. This could be addressed if other family members threw (or hit) a ball in the backyard regularly.
  • Mastiffs, especially the Bullmastiff - despite their large size, they are calm and even-tempered, and have quite low energy levels so do not need as much exercise as other dogs.
  • Boston terrier - a low maintenance, intelligent and loyal breed. These are considered good for lazy owners! Like all dogs, they still need plenty of human interaction, however.
  • Boxers are also good - they are large and appreciate a good sized yard, but their coat is low maintenance. They are also considered to be fairly easy to train.
  • Pugs are regarded as very low maintenance, but they will not necessarily appreciate a large yard.

To breed, these fugly creatures take about the amount for someone to let out their droppings. It is a particularly grand event as these little mites eat out your eyes and drop the evidence of your pupils on the floor. Hope it is a very constructive answer :)
