You can start with a Rem. 870 12GA and go up from there. I've used 870's, Win. 1300's, 11-87's, and 1100's. An over and under or side-by-side is best. You get two quick shots. The Daley's are a bit light in 12ga and kick a lot for shooting over 50 rounds. A heavy gun is better than a light one for all day shooting. I've got Stoger and EAA's that work great. The main thing is to find one that fits you. 12's and 20's to start with and then get a 28GA or .410 for fun.

∙ 16y agoThe best trap gun you can buy is one that FITS you and breaks the clay. Get one that has a adjustable stock. You need to pattern it so it hits where you look. A TRAP gun will shoot higher than a field gun. Lots of useful information on the internet, do your homework and pick up a nice used one.

∙ 14y agoI use modified in 12 ga shooting #8 or 7.5 shot. I have been shooting from the 19-23 yard line and have a 24.3 average so far this year. Full choke works as well but your margin of error will be alot smaller. IC chokes have too much spread and the clays can go right through the pattern. At 40 yards the percent of pellets in a 30 inch circle is as follows. Full choke= 70%, modified= 60% and Improved cylinder= 50%.

∙ 14y agoFor trap a 1oz or 1 1/8oz #7.5 or #8 shot 1200 fps or 2 3/4 Dram in 12 or 20 gauge would work great. For skeet use # 9 shot in any shotgun.
