∙ 12y agoDon't get a pit bull, or any dangerous dog. Also, with children around, don't get a dog that is under ten pounds. I recommend the poodle, they do not shed, are hypoallergenic, and if you get a miniture, they are the perfect size for children. I have had two, and they are just amazing, and are very sturdy and sweet. They do not bark a lot despite their reputation. I hope you rescue yours from a shelter! Those dogs are so sweet :) I work at the animal shelter, so listen to me when I say that getting a poodle is the way to go!

∙ 14y agoLabrador Retreivers are fantastic dogs for kids of any age, especially 10-12. They are playful and fun but not dangerous.
