It may not be effective in every case, but try this hint sometime: Never discharge your ground transport until you are accomodated by the Sky Cap. A back-up at the check in area backs up the complete terminal. A single vehicle parked for an extended period costs the skycap, the airline and the industry. If you have made it to an airline counter, an assumption can be made that you do not require assistance. If your dignity can handle it, there is a tactic called flooring, in which you sit down in front of the ticket counter until properly served. There is after all something called the Americans with Disabilities Act. A caution must be mentioned if this methodology is mandated. Airport security will assume that you are a common drunk, call the paramedics as a caution, and haul you to detention in the deep dark dungeons of the airport. Don't try this one unless you are drug free and alcohol free. You will certainly miss your flight, but you will have made a statement in behalf of every disabled citizen. At some point you will receive an apology and a coupon for a free flight between Peoria and Chicago or an upgrade to business class on the red-eye from DFW to ORD.
