The reaction between a carboxlic acid and an alcohol is named as esterfication. Ester is formed during this reaction.
ester is formed by the reactin alcohol with an acid .with the elimination of water.
Benzoic acid is unsaturated because it has double- double carbon bonds and due to resonance those bonds can be easily move around , that's what makes benzoic acid unique. All compounds containing a benzene ring are actually unsaturated.
Unsaturated fatty acids have double carbon bonds.
oils tend to be triglycerides ( ester groups with a fatty acid and glycerol as the alcohol ) that contain mono or poly unsaturated fatty acids. The less saturation of a fatty acid the higher the melting point of the compound and is thus less likely to be liquid at room temperature
The boiling point of Nitric Acid is 121 degree celsius.
Hydrocarbon < ether < alcohol < carboxylic acid
Well, I think, if you use a Dean-Strark apparatus, you will be able to get the ester. If the boiling point of ester is more than that of water, then on refluxing, water will collect in the side tube.
Since esters no longer have a hydrogen atom bonded to the oxygen as a carboxylic acid does, they are not able to hydrogen bond. This means intermolecular forces are much weaker and they boil at lower temperatures.
This is acetic acid wth a boiling point of cca. 118 0C.
Aspirin is acetylsalicylic acid and an acetate ester of salicylic acid.
158 oC
an acid is more polar than an ester
321.8 degrees C
The active ingredient in aspirin is acetyl salicylic acid. This is an ester, and boiling it will hydrolyze the bond and break it down into acetic acid and salicylic acid.
