A calico cat can be a number of breeds or a mix-breed. It is identified by its large patches of white, orange and black. A Birman is a longhaired breed. It has a cream to white body with a darker colour on the face, ears, legs and tail, and it has white toes.

Berkshire pigs are a breed with an upright, erect ear, and are black color all over their body with the exception of six white points. These white points are a splashes of white on the nose, the tip of the tail and all four feet.
Cat breeds cannot be determined by fur colour alone. Although there are breeds that have only one look, a mixed breed house cat can be any colour or pattern. The main difference between breeds is face shape and body shape. The coat pattern that has a lot of white with patches of ginger and black is called calico. Cats with small amounts of white are tortoiseshell-and-whites, and the pattern that is white with a ginger and/or black tail and top of head is called the Van pattern, originating from the Turkish Van breed.
