Media hero or no, the Party Line of the time was officers of the Armed Forces ( and Lindbergh was one of them were supposed to stay the H--- Out of Politics, at least on active duty ( does not apply to ex-Service officers such as Grant and Eisenhower, obviously. On is surprised that FDr did not take personal executive action against Lindbergh who all-but-Campaigned as a traveling candidate. It is very strange.
