If you have a 3-speed transmission, the total capacity is 8.5qts, with 4-4.5qts of that in the pan. If it's the 4-speed, it has a total capacity of 9.1qts, again, probably 4-4.5qts in the pan. I only know the 3 speed for sure because that is what I have.

If the converter is drained, then about 17 quarts of fluid will be used. 75W90 is the recommended transmission oil to be used.
Any gear oil designed for modern Harley transmissions will work fine in older Harleys, but if you want a specific weight, the factory recommends 80W90.
