PRE-HISPANIC AKLANBefore the Spanish colonizers came, the people of Aklan were already engaged in trade not only with other islands in the Visayas or the Philippines, but also with other Asian countries. Archaeological findings show that Aklan's trade with Asian neighbors dates as far back as the 10th to the 15th centuries. Its ship-building industry facilitated trade. Textiles woven out of various plant fibers were among the products traded.
