The capital of Sint Eustatius is Oranjestadt. It was founded by the Dutch in 17th century and named after ruling princely family in the Netherlands - House of Oranje (Orange).
The town was an important trade center and port in the Caribbean during the 18th century. From the port's fort (Fort Oranje) was shot the first cannon salute to the flag of a US ship, so this tiny island is known as the first nation that recognized the independence of the US. Now the location is a small tourist center with about 2,000 people.
