Yes some Americans are ignorant, but to group us together like that is a bit unfair, don't you think? I have heard about Tasmaina. As I recall - During the late 17th centrury the dutch were visiting the western and southern Austrailia calling it 'New Holland' Most of the investigation was done by 'Abel Tasman' who explored the surronding water and discovered 'Van Diemen's Land' which is now Tasmaina.
