What is the most affordable way to send a 9-year-old child to visit a relative in another city?

Uaually by plane actually. Trains are usually more expensive and buses aren't safe enough. Book the flight well in advance and be flexible about the date and time. This will help get the cheapest ticket. Also let the airline know when you purchse the ticket that it is for a child and they will help make sure he is safe, doesn't miss any connecting flights and finds his way around the airport okay. And get him an ID at the DMV airlines like photo IDs and it will make boarding much much easier for everyone.

Why are languages in Tasmania unrelated to those off of the island?

Because Tasmanian tribes were isolated from the mainland tribes by a stretch of water called Bass Straight approx 200 miles wide except in the ice ages,

when a land bridge formed as the oceans lowered leaving a stretch of water about 100-200 metres wide which was crossable. Outside this time they remained isolated, and in these times there were major migrations of the natives on the mainland down as far as Victoria bringing new ways to speak but due to the physical separation of Tasmanian natives these changes never reached them and their language did not change as fast as the mainlands tribes.

What strait or body of water separates Victoria and Tasmania Australia?

Bass Strait is the body of water which separates the island state of Tasmania from the mainland state of Victoria.

Bass Strait is named after George Bass, the sea explorer who was certain that Van Diemen's land (as Tasmania was then called) was an island, and who sought permission and sponsorship from the Governor to prove this.

Bass departed Sydney on 3 December 1797, to determine whether a navigable strait existed between Van Diemen's Land and the mainland. It was on this journey that Bass discovered the strait that is now named after him.

Was Tasmania ever joined to the mainland?

Yes, but it became an island about 35,000 years ago.

No it didn't. 35,000 years ago Tasmania was still joined to mainland Australia and was populated by Aboriginals. By around 12,000 years ago the sea had separated Tasmania from the mainland and cut off any interaction between Tasmanian Aboriginals and those on the mainland. The result of this separation was some superficial differences between the two groups.
