Nylon is a family of fibres, not a definite fiber itself, but the most common nylon is Nylon-66

Nylon-66 is a polymer of adipic acid (COOH-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH2-COOH)and hexymethylene diammine. (NH2-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH2-NH2).

The formula is:

(-NH-CO-(CH2)4-CO-NH-(CH2)6-)n

Here n is a natural number. So, nylon is a long chain. It is a polypeptide, just like proteins.

The properties of nylon are:

1) It is easy to manufacture (if you can get a hold of the chemicals, you can make it in the class project yourslef)

2) It is light, so it is logical to use it as a material for parachutes.

3) It is waterproof, hence it is used to make swimwear.

4) It is resistant to wear. So used in machine parts, etc
