It's the electronic hand-brake or parking brake lever.
Your emergency brake lever.
To shift the recon into reverse push the red button at the right break lever labeled "R" down and pull the lever back. Then shift down using the down arrow on the electric shift. Reverse light should come on and back you go.
I have had the same problem with my 2002 Buell Blast, where when you shift to first, or down shift at all, the shift lever comes loose and just hangs. What I did to fix this, is loosen the hex-nut and bolt that go through the shift lever, and remove the shift lever itself. What is probably happening is oil is seeping in between the shift lever openining and the primary. Clean the openinig on the shift lever, and the spool it attaches to. If the hex-bolt is in poor condition, pick up a new one, or if it's in alright condition (not stripped) clean it. Simply set the shift lever where you want it, and retighten the hex-bolt. Tighten it a fair bit, using a lever to get extra leverage on it. Buells are notorious for leaking oil, so start with that. Worked for me...
let off the throttle, clutch in, press up or down on the shift lever depending on whether you want to shift up or down, let the clutch out slowly and begin giving it gas again
Step firmly on the brake pedal. Pull the shift lever toward you and down.
There should be a button on the left brake lever that needs to be pushed in, then depress that lever, then shift down and it should then be in reverse. My 1998 trx300 is this way. Hope this is helpful.
Engage the clutch. Shift to neutral. In neutral move the smaller shift lever. On an 87 wrangler the lever is closest to driver. The shift pattern is 2H at the top, 4H middle and 4L is all the way down.
on the 1987 model which I believe is the same operation, you would push the button next to the parking brake lever on the left lever down when lever is fully released. then while squeezing the lever, shift 1 position down from nuetral.
clutch in, press down on the shift lever for first, up for 2-6
From the neutral gear position with the neutral light illuminated, press down on the shift lever, for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears, lift the lever with your foot one time for each gear.
Shut the throttle. Pull in your clutch. Kick the gear lever down. Let out the clutch. More advanced: Shut the throttle. Pull in your clutch. Kick the gear lever down. Blip the throttle - let out the clutch.
If you set the shift lever to "L" Position, you will see the number of Highest Gear that the Transmission can shift on you Cluster panel under the Speedometer, where is P R N D L, you will see L is highlighted and right of it you will see 3 ( L3 ), this mean that you gearbox will shift up to 3rd gear, and will not shift to 4th, with the buttons on lever you can select the highest gear, also will you shift to L, you can stop the can with engine, and will you go downhill and select a right gear, you can hold the speed without touching the brake too much and not make to car to accelerate too fast.Example for doing the the stop with engine: run the car for about a 50-60km/h, shift you lever to L, its automatically shift to L3, and turn it down, to L2, you will notice a light car slowing, press down the MINUS ( - ) key, to shift to L1 ( 1st gear only ) you will notice that car is slowing very good.
