The Congo River is the second largest river in Africa and lies at the equator. Unlike the Nile, the Congo River basin is largely tropical rainforest, with year-round temperatures in the upper 20's C on the western, lower end where the river meets the Atlantic, and the lower 20's C in the higher regions to the east. While there is essentially no seasonal temperature variation due to its equatorial location, rainfall does vary, from being among the year-round wettest places in the world in the eastern mountains, to having a wet-season / dry-season in the western portion. No part of the basin, however, could be considered desert or even dry in climate, and the entire area is lush with vegetation and filled with wildlife of great variety.
